About Me

The Background

Curiosity, determination, and grit. That’s how you show up to college expecting to come a mechanical engineer, leaving with an economics degree, all the while spending many summers and years moonlighting in architecture as just a “job”. In hindsight, every one of those attributes and experiences have significantly contributed to what I’ve grown to be professionally. How did I get interested in building science? By becoming the to-go guy for anything to do with the energy code. Basic thermodynamics learned backed in physics and engineering. Why did I become an excellent CD and CA guy? Because “means and methods” wasn’t acceptable enough of an answer to sate my curiosity. That degree? Actually, very useful. It allows me to see entire picture of housing and how it affects our lives and the economy. It also fueled my curiosity about the business of architecture and those attached to it.

Today I’m more excited than ever about what’s next. Last fall I committed to taking the ARE and passing it by the end of the year. 10 weeks of studying and I knocked out all 6 in 8 days. I intended to follow up with obtaining my CPHC certification this year. The intent behind this is that in 2025 I was either going to find a workplace that needs a “me” or I was building my own path to the next thing. Either way, someday I do aspire towards starting my own build-design firm or working towards becoming an architect-developer. Either of those would incorporate the current best standards in building science, energy efficiency, and sustainability. I would also like to go back to the roots of my career and start doing more meaningful projects for people and communities. Be it the custom homes, infill, or adaptive reuse projects that I’ve greatly enjoyed in the past.

Off the Clock

Outside of work, I’m inspired by my early passions for motorsports and aerospace—fields that remind me of the creativity and ingenuity I strive to bring to architecture. Spending time in outside or just in nature is another favorite way to spend my time. Along with checking out finding new and interesting beers at breweries.
